The Series is Coming to a Close...

Twilight is coming to a close. The last two movies are coming out soon. So, if you like twilight, what's next? This list will contain action, vampires, romance, vampire romance, and more supernatural boyfriends than a teen could ever ask for. If you're asking yourself "What should I read if I like Twilight?" or "What should I watch if I like Twilight?", this is the article for you! 3 Books/Book series, and 3 Movies.

Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments

Cassandra Clare wrote a hit series here. It combines all the hallmarks of a teen fantasy romance novel: action, angst, self-discovery, hot guys, and a love-based drama. Vampires, demons, and teens, oh my! There are 4 books in this series to sink your teeth into.

Clary Fray, a seemingly regular 15 year-old, becomes entangled with a group of young demon hunters while at a night club. After stumbling upon this dangerous world, she learns there's more to herself and her family history than she could have imagined. Suddenly her life, and her mother's, are on the line.

Holly Black's Faerie Tales

Author Holly Black has written an excellent series for young adults that will capture the heart of any Twilight fan. Much like Twilight, a supernatural world is seamlessly intertwined with modern reality. But trust me, it puts the "urban" in the genre "urban fantasy". There's adventure, action, and a strong romantic plot. The best thing? Strong female characters! These girls know what they want and don't hesitate to go get it.

Book 1: Tithe

16 year-old Kaye discovers she is a changeling. As she explores the faerie world she falls in love with a faerie knight, and struggles to stay alive while caught in a brutal power play.

Book 2: Valiant

A girl named Valerie runs away. She finds a home under New York City, in the subway system. Below ground, Valerie struggles when her supernatural drug addiction conflicts with her new love.

Book 3: Ironside

Kaye is banished by the faerie she loves. She risks life and limb to return to his side...and save is life.

Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games

Suzanne Collins wrote a wonderfully imaginative series called The Hunger Games. Unlike the series above, each book picks up the narrative from the end of the other. Therefore I won't summarize each individually.

The Hunger Games is set in a dystopian future U.S, divided into "districts". The names of two people in per district are drawn periodically to compete in a deadly game. The winner's district recieves extra supplies. The catch? It's played to the death.

Katniss, a teenager from the poorest district, volunteers to take her sister's place in the games. She discovers the game she plays goes far beyond what she does in the arena. It extends to the fate of a rebellion.

Amidst violence and an uncertain future, Katniss has to choose between two men who love her: the childhood friend who always stood by her, and the boy who's chosen to fight by her side in the games.

Note: these movies are for varying ages. Watch at your own discretion.

Underworld

Werewolves and Vampires are at war. Selene is a vampire. She's also an old, experienced, expert werewolf hunter. The werewolves want a man named Michael for a genetic experiment. Selene, hating werewolves, does her best to stop them from getting him. When Michael bitten anyway, she has to choose between her duty to vampire-kind (plus her vendetta against the werewolves) and her feelings for the now-werewolf Michael.

Van Helsing

Vampires are the villain in this movie, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining.

Van Helsing (played by Hugh Jackman) is called to Transylvania for some vampire-slaying action. Dracula plans to raise a whole generation of vampires. Not on Helsing's watch. And not on Anna Valerious's either. The vampire slayer and a beautiful princess team up to end Count Dracula's reign of terror.

Let the Right One In

This vampire flick is perhaps better for Twilight's more grown up fans. While artistic, heart-warming and sweet, it also has it's rather violent moments. If you can't watch movies rated R, or squeamish, then this might not be for you.

Let the Right One In is about a young boy named Oscar. Oscar is bullied and a bit neglected, living in a rather lonely complex. One day, a mysterious girl moves in near by. Bonding over their joint eccentricity, the two become fast friends. Their relationship blooms. Yet the world is cold, and their alliance to each other is put to the test.

I can't comment on the books but Let the right one in (both original and US versions) are well worth watching.

For the more hardcore definately check out REC.

Honestly, I felt like the US version fell pretty flat. The US should stop producing bad remakes of good films. :D
